How To Adjust the Valves on a 1988 Acura Integra LS

For starters, make sure the engine is cold, and begin to remove the PCV valve, as well as electrical wiring that runs through the valve cover in the wake of about one inch on the right side of the engine.

Now remove ten 10mm bolts that hinder on the valve cover, we must be careful not to damage the rubber gasket that fits in the groove on the river bottom of the valve cover. Valves that are ticking, need to be backed off a bit, as they are colliding with each other slightly, or hitting the top of the piston slightly. Valves that aren’t ticking, you can tighten down ever so slightly to get better compression, but back them off if you begin to hear a ticking sound. If you aren’t sure what you are doing, I would only adjust ticking valves, as the others are most likely adjusted correctly.

Once your car seems to be running smoother, and you are happy with your valve adjustment, you can shut the car off. Now begin replacing the valve cover and gasket, make sure the gasket is well seated in the valve cover, or on the head before replace, then make sure it’s sealed all the way around so you don’t leak oil.

Replace PCV valve and wiring harnesses that crosses the valve cover, valve cover shake. If you seemed to lose a lot of oil while you were coping, let your engine sit about 10 or 15 minutes to drain the oil may return to the stove, and to check the oil, add as needed. You have to adjust the valves successfully in your Acura or Honda, congratulations!
